Black90Euro
Hey, I'm sure this has been asked before but I searched and looked and didn't see what I need to know. Ok , can I swap some series III heads off an '93-'94 3.1 and will the intake on my current '90 3.1 work or do I need to get the heads and intake off the donor car. I've priced some ported/polished heads and up/lower intake from RSM and the want like $300.00 + $100.00 Core Charge for the intake and $900.00/pair + $200.00 Core Charge for the heads and $89 for the gasket set , that's like $1600 +\- then the shop wants $750+ to install them ... that's $2300  that's if I don't get the throttle body which is $210.00 + $100.00 Core Charge = $2610.00 for 45-50 more HP -- OMG -- theres's no freaking way I can afford that --- never mind :x
slick
Do you mean you want the 3100 heads or the 3.1 heads? If you want the 3X00 top end, visit here: http://www.domesticcrew.com/660/hybrid.html
Black90Euro
3.1 heads ..
Baddflash
What exactly are you trying to accomplish here, cause all the 3.1L heads are the same. 94+ was Gen3 and is the 3100 which requires the heads up to swap on the 3.1. Your old upper and lower intake will not work with 3100 heads.
Black90Euro
if all 3.1 heads are the same why is my'90 - 3.1 only 140 hp and newer '92-93 go 165 and 175 ? I'm trying to get more HP without doing a complete engine swap.
mihela816
The engine with 160-175 hp is the 3100. The computer will need tuned if you do complete the swap. It is a lot of work, as it requires and entirely new power steering pump and everything heads and up.

I'm trying to get more HP without doing a complete engine swap. '92 and '93 3.1 Multiport's arn't 165 and 175 they're 140 i've been told some Supreme's got 3100's in late '93, but i've never seen one, or heard of anybody owning one, and i've seen a ton of '93 Supremes. my car was a late year car, built in April, 1993 and i have a 3.1 Multiport. anyways, 3100's make 160, and then 175 if i'm correct. that's what your talking about i assume
Baddflash
As far as I know all gen2 3.1L (excluding the turbo) are 140Hp, the gen3 3100 is 160-175hp and only became available in 94+. To the best of my knowledge the 1st gen Lumina(90-94) never got the 3100, although if someone with a '94 Lumina could confirm this. I know the engine was available but I've never seen a 1st gen lumina with the 3100. Either way you are talking about two differnt engines and if you want gen3 heads on your gen2 block you are going to need the gen3 intake. By the way where are you getting the specs that say '92-93 are 160+hp? They must have put a cone filter. That's worth 20+ HP,right??

Black90Euro
well I appreciate the info , I misread or misunderstood stuff I saw anyway that kit from RSM was to much anyway. I'm stuck with what I got I guess :? Thanks , Mark
rudefyet
also to add 94 -99 3100 = 160hp, 2000+ 3100 = 175hp 97+ 3400's use the same heads as the 2000+ 3100 with the 3400 heads you're gettiing larger intake valves and roller rocker arms that's the best choice if you actually want to change heads
PeNZ
Many people do this over at v6z24.com, and they call it a hybred swap.

EurosportZ34
Forget all this head swapping Mark and just swap a 3.4 DOHC in place of your lil' 3.1. You know you want to!
