cryptnix
if i were to find a 3400 motor would everything bolt up along with using my current trans?
White93z34
might have to change out the chip in the computer but that should be about it
sl3196
The 3400 uses the 4T45 trans I think.
digitaloutsider
The 3400 uses the 4T45 trans I think. In the Grand Am's and such. For a more direct swap, you'd need the 3400 and tranny out of a U-van. They use the 4T65e.
jeremy
here is a link to the best write up on the 3100 to 3400 swap that you will probably find......... http://60degreev6.com/SwapGuides/1995%20Pontiac%20Grand%20Am%20GT%20Swap%20Version%202.0.pdf
dsgrntld187
Pretty much everything would drop right in. All the sensors from the 3100 would have to be put in the 3400. If I do any form of swap, this is the one I'm doing for money reasons.
EurosportZ34
As I take it the 3400 is just a big 3100.
dsgrntld187
3400 is just a bored out 3100, isnt it? and the newer 3100 was basically a 3400?
slick
3400 is just a bored out 3100, isnt it? and the newer 3100 was basically a 3400? It's bored over. Bigger stroke. Better flowing heads and manifolds. Better cam. Hell, the whole engine is better.
cryptnix
interesting ... i'll likely purchase a rebuild kit for her. there aren't any cam upgrades for this motor is there? or even rockers?
slick
Cam, no. Rockers, I think it's possible, but you would have to custom grind your own guideplates.

Not longer stroke. 3400 is the same 84mm stroke as 3.1/3100 Bore is 92mm opposed to 89mm on 3.1/3100
dsgrntld187
I saw a Cam upgrade in Summit I thought from either Edelbrock or someone.. I dunno. Comp Cams, that was it.

cryptnix
as you can see i know nothing about my motor ... mostly the 3800 is what i'm trying to learn ... sadly i was opt to get it a few months back but ... decided not but honestly i'd wish you folks could point me in the direction of informative sites for my motor ... BESIDES 60degreeV6 ... I hate that site to damn old looking and too damn shitty of choice for colors.
sl3196
60v6 has good info on the 3100/3400 just don't talk about the l67 at all. You need to make up your damn mind what the fuck you want to do. Every week you change it to something new!
cryptnix
well, if i can find out why it is she's sputtering i wont do a damn thing except waste money on little mods and call it good more and more i am starting to lose interest in anything with learning anything about cars cause its just seriously a waste of time for me currently. which is why its making me change my mind so much. whenever i start my car in the morning she runs fine until it gets to temp then it starts to sputter as i get up in speed ... just alot of stuff going on currently and the last thing i want to worry about is my fuckin car to blow up. i hardly EVER get on it except when I am getting on the freeway or ... just wanting to have fun with it. no sense in beating on my freakin daily driver. just been having a bad year this year ... Vegeta
Well after reading this thread, its your loss for not looking at the 60v6 site for info. I guess you can go to phoenix.60degreev6.com and read whatever we have put up there so far since we are working on a new layout...and its very early on in the process.
