skiiirt
I have had a mechanic dispute GM says the reason I have oil in my spark plugs is because the intake manifold gaskets are leaking, they suggest replacing the gasket (10130924) and the O-Rings (10127474) My mechanic says that is not the cause for the oil in the plugs Can anyone here help me get the story straight? Who should I trust? An old man who has been a mechanic for 30+ years or the money hungry stealership? Im at witts end. This is costing me over a grand to do. I have spent over $7000 in 6 months fixing this car. Im almost ready to fix it up and sell it
DiscoStudd
I know zero about the 3.4 TDC motor, but I lean towards the 30 year veteran's opinion on this one. In any internal combustion engine, oil fouling the spark plugs either means you overfilled the crankcase, the valve seals are shot, or the piston rings are worn out. I always thought if an intake gasket was out that coolant would be leaking in, not oil...
gp90se
if your lower intake gasket is leaking, oil could be seeping into the runners and soaking the plugs, the lower intake are commen 2 go on the 3.4, might as well.

skiiirt
no offense, but i would have sold that car a long time ago. you must not really love your oldsmobile realisticly, I've already spent the money replacing the engine. Provided I keep this car in good mechanical shape, I should have a pretty reliable car *knock on wood* This car is more than a grocery getter. Some people restore old cars I choose mid 1990's

Im almost ready to fix it up and sell it If you are able you can fix your car for 40 bux and 1 days work or atleast 3-5 hours. 2 hours if you have air tools or electric first off NO oil runs threw your intake manifold at any part. Only Air and Coolant flow threw them. Second, 2 words, Valve covers!!! Oil getting ontop of your spark plugs is from your Orings in your valve covers failing to seal properly. Your going to want to do both front and rear valve covers when you do this. get a felpro valve cover gasket set form o'rileys 20 bux also while your at it kill 2 birds with 1 stone and buy an intake gasket set also 20bux remove your intake tube. Remove upper and lower intake manifold complete writeup and pics step by step can be found at http://www.60degreev6.com/index.php?p=pages&pid=9 and the lower found at http://www.60degreev6.com/index.php?p=pages&pid=5 Your valve cover gaskets probably look like this if they are bad or even just flattend http://www.cardomain.com/member_pages/show_image.pl?image=member_img_a/436966_64_full.jpg
skiiirt
I believe that is exactly whats going down. Everything in those tutorials they will be doing. I was invited to the garage to watch the mechanic do it. He apparently wants to show me what exactly is going on. I go monday morning
