holstbnet
I just thought of something today. Back during my senior year of high school, 1996, my buddy bought a brand new 1996 Chevy Monte Carlo Z34 with the 3.4 X motor. This was a very new car on the streets so we got looks everywhere! Ahh.. the old days. But I remember that from day one, every once in a while he'd go to start it and it would catch and then cough and die. Then the second turn of the key it would crank and crank and finally start. Then other times (most of the time) it started perfectly fine. He took it to the dealer and they farted around with it.. but I don't think the issue ever got resolved. My guess is it was an ECM problem of some sort. The worst part is it ALWAYS did it when some hot broads were standing around us and we were leaving, or something like that. Shiny new Monte Carlo Z34 sputtering and won't start. How embarrassing. So.. have any of you guys heard of this issue? That car is long gone but I was thinking about that today.
Canada
I haven't had this problem with the GP yet....altough I really don't drive it much.....lack of license plates. I do have this problem with my Beretta from time to time......both with the 3100 and 3400. From what I have been told from school, *sometimes* the crank will be sitting JUST right it takes a complete rotation of the crank for the PCM to "relearn" how the crank is position....this maybe complete bullshit. skiiirt
the 3.4 is a bitch. I just bought a brand new ECM, ignition control module, fuel pump and starter. Hopefully my car will roar to life. Putting all these things in tomorrow. Wish the dealership luck!
Canada
Thats the shotgun approach if I've ever seen one.........I'm surprised a crank sensor wasn't in on that.
White93z34
shotgun aproach indeed how much are you getting raped for all that?
Vegeta
i bet none of those fix the problem...what a shame. Crank/Cam position sensor are the usual suspects for a hard/no crank situation. Cam sensor for hard start, long start and crank sensor is usually the no start (im talking SFI with the cam sensor). It could be the ignition module but those really don't die that often. skiiirt
forgot to mention the intake gaskets as well. Parts cost me around $250 CDN (dont ask, dont tell ) Still gotta pay up the ass for labour. Probibly $1000 by the end
sonyman87
that cold start you speak of is a direct result of a Minor Lower intake gasket leak. It can be caused by bad gasket or by an injector oring that has gone bad and spills some gas slowly but surley on the gasket itself. intake gaskets from FelPro are 19.99 usd You can do the job yourself in the matter of 3 hours if you know what your doing. there is a nice writeup on how to do this procedure at http://www.60degreev6.com under the 3.4DOHC motor section
