Guest TurboSedan
well i finally changed my spark plugs today. i noticed immediately that the car had more power and ran smoother. cool. well until i hammered it in 3rd gear that is (low RPM). the clutch is obviously slipping under heavy load/low RPM. i even made the clutch slip in 2nd gear but it was worse in 3rd gear. after shifting into 3rd and hammering it i could watch the tach go up and hear the engine rev but the car didn't pull then the RPM would come back down and the car would start pulling ahead. i think the low end torque is just too much for the old clutch. soo....looks like i'll be swapping out the clutch soon, heck i guess i'll be swapping in my other Getrag 282 while i'm at it (to fix the speedo problem) and adding all of the TGP parts to the engine. thankfully the engine is running great! btw, i got almost 70,000 miles out of this clutch. it was brand new when i swapped the first Getrag 282 in back in the summer of '02. not bad, i definately got my use out of it. sl3196
Well at least the engine is running good. Good time to add the TGP parts anyways.
Canada
What clutch are you going to put back in? Flywheel?
Guest TurboSedan
man i am not sure! my brother and i have used Luk Rep Sets in our Turbo Dodges and they do excellent even with 14psi. my brother's Omni GLH Turbo dyno'd 270 wheel TQ and it doesn't slip. i forgot what kind of clutch i installed in the Cutlass, it came from brian89gp when i bought my first Getrag from him. it was more or less a standard replacement i think. i'm open to suggestions...all i know right now is that it won't be a Centerforce, and i want something that won't kill my leg while i deliver pizza. i'll probably just use my existing flywheel and have it turned of course. Good time to add the TGP parts anyways. yeah, despite having nearly 230,000 miles it runs great. thankfully my GTS will be back on the road shortly and i can start work on the Cutlass. i really need to get to work rebuilding the 'V' motor too, because i'm sure the current 3.1 'T' engine isn't going to last real long with boost
Guest TurboSedan
shit i just drove the Cutlass this morning and the clutch is slipping alot more than it was yesterday, even tho i was driving it lightly. i have a bad feeling i won't be able to drive this car by the end of the week.
