old champions vs. new ACs.

most of the old ones were at .05, one was around .047

So for all you newbies asking once a week how to change the rear plugs, THAT'S how you change them.

what a coincidence, i just got back from getting new plugs at Checker 1/2 hour ago :) i usually just pull the motor forward enough to stick a bolt thru the slave hole in the driver's side dogbone, that usually gives me and my skinny little arms enough room

my current plugs have almost 70,000 miles on them  i checked & regagpped them about a month ago (when i couldn't afford plugs) and the gap was almost .060! my car has been running like shit lately, stumbling really bad and getting horrible gas mileage (as if i can afford that). hopefully new plugs and some GM Top Engine Cleaner will help - my 3.1 has almost 230,000 miles right now...

That's what I was trying to do, but I couldn't pull it far enough to slide the bolt through.. that's why I broke out the van. I let the van go under it stopped moving until idle (didn't want to give it any gas) and the engine still wasn't far enough forward to slide the bolt through the slave hole so I said screw it and just left it hooked up to the van. gave me enough room.

i heard the hard parts are squeezing in and getting the damn boot off.

Oh well, maybe i can do it next week at the mass mod day

Your telling me, I was messing around the other day and couldn't pull the fucking boot off. There is a heat sheild around it and there is no where to grab.

i was just barely able to yank the motor forward enough to install the bolt in the slave hole when i changed my plugs today. i had to yank the motor forward by grabbing the alternator, and simultaneously push the bolt thru the slave hole with my other hand when the engine came forward enough.

Push in them a bit and twist them at the same time, it helps, but they're still a pain to remove. I can change plugs on 3800's without tilting the motor forward, or at least I have before.

i sure as hell wouldnt trust that rope to not let go and cut my hand off.

It had already snapped once too, right at the latch on the Caravan. So I just doubled it up going through the next time  wasn't too worried, at worst I would've had a huge long welt or maybe lost and eye or testicle or something.
