It's good practice to check your CV joint boots every time you have a tire off. If you notice a mysterious greenish-yellow goop splattered around the area that your CV joint is located this most likely indicates a crack in the boot. The lubricating grease is leaking from the boot and most likely, road grime has entered your joint, and has begun destroying the bearings. |

Also, CHANGE YOUR FLUID. If you have let your fluid in your transaxle turn brown and it now smells "burnt" you are gambling if you change your fluid. Many experienced transmission places won't change your fluid if this is the case. They will warn you of "burnt clutches because of differing viscosities in the old and new fluids." For the most part, this is true, however, some dealerships have conditioners that will help you overcome this. You are still gambling with a burn out transmission. The best advise is to maintain a consistent maintainence period. |
