Pontiac Grand Prix Turbo Info

Provided by Jeffrey Middaugh

Wanted to add some info to your pages if you don't mind. I run the (soon to be on my web page too) Turbo Grand Prix Club of America. I started this back in 1990 and have amassed a large following of members. I provide them with helpful tips to modify, fix and maintain these vehicles. I would like to add some info to your category on the TGP. They came out initially as a 1989 model, a red 1989 TGP was used as the pace car in the Daytona 500 for that year. This was the first release of the 3.1L motor as the 2.8 was the stock V6 engine available at that time and was only capable of 125-130 HP. The 1989 TGP was also the first release by Pontiac for the GM-Hughes Head-Up-Display (HUD). Later in mid 1989, the 3.1 was introduced and was able to provide 140 HP. The 1990 carried over the 1989 TGP with only changes to the rims, varying interior color options, a simpler dash layout and a different transmission configuration (no wide open throttle in 4th gear). There was also a proto-type 1988 TGP that was used at the Pikes Peak Race and a special black/gold 1990 TGP made for Rusty Wallace. Final prices for fully loaded 1990 TGP was around $28,000 (Leather seats, CD Player and Moonroof were the only options). Hope that this info helps sweeten your already delicious web. Glad to help out.

205 HP @ 4,800, 220 lbs-ft @ 3,200. Stock best times of 0-60 in 7 flat, though we modify this vehicle to do high 5s to low 6s.
